Captain Tom Moore has been presented with a Pride Of Britain Award after raising over £28million for the NHS and its battle against the coronavirus crisis. When making an appearance on Good Morning Britain, ahead of his 100th birthday, the war hero got a special surprise. Appearing on the screen via video call, Carol Vorderman who usually presents the ceremony, cheered on the champ as she revealed his prize. ‘I am here, reporting on a mission, a Pride Of Britain Awards mission,’ the 59-year-old said before mentioning Tom’s daughter: ‘Hannah just said you have 70,000 cards so far, so it might not surprise you that you have that number of nominations to win an award. ‘You have influenced all of us in the country, bringing all the generations together.’
Raising up the trophy, she beamed: ‘I’ve got something that is for you and this will be your Pride Of Britain Award, from all of us and everyone that has nominated. ‘I can’t give this to you now, but I want to give it to you later in the year when we have this awards ceremony.’ Tom was moved by the gesture, and said: ‘That is very amazing, it is difficult to me to believe things like that – it is a very important award I can’t be more proud to be in a position to receive it from you.’
