The Covid-19 vaccine is estimated to have prevented more than 84,000 deaths in England, according to new figures from Public Health England.
PHE said that 84,600 deaths and almost 23.4 million infections have been prevented as a result of the vaccination programme up to August 6.
Estimates of the number of hospital admissions in England that have been directly averted by the vaccine remain unchanged at 66,900.
Dr Yvonne Doyle, the medical director for PHE, said vaccines are “breaking the link between infections and serious illness”.
